President Rodrigo Paz Pereira aims to eliminate four taxes to attract foreign investment and deter capital flight.
Bolivia.- President Rodrigo Paz Pereira has announced that he will present a bill that seeks to eliminate several taxes, including the tax on gambling in Bolivia. Paz Pereira argues that the gambling tax, as well as the taxes on financial transactions and business promotions contribute less than 1 per cent to Bolivia’s total tax revenue, which he believes isn’t enough to compensate for the cost of their administration and resulting loss of investor confidence.
As reported by Focus Gaming News Latam, the president made the announcement during an event with workers from the National Electricity Company (ENDE) in Cochabamba. He also defended his administration’s decision to eliminate the wealth tax introduced during the previous administration of Luis Arce.
Paz Pereira argued that some regulations from previous administrations triggered capital flight, estimating that around US$7bn left the country in the last six or seven years. The minister of economy, José Gabriel Espinoza, says the taxes also contributed to low international investment in Bolivia, which the government has estimated at just US$247m in 2024.
Meanwhile, the Executive has announced that it will seek to adjust the 2026 General State Budget, with the goal of reducing public spending by at least 30 per cent.
