Davis is accused of being a go-between for in a loan of money allegedly used to influence Beasley’s performance
US.- The retired NBA player Ed Davis has entered a not guilty plea over charges including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, sports bribery, money laundering, and honest services fraud. He entered the plea at the Eastern District of New York.
The prosecution claims that Davis was a go-between for Malik Beasley in the loan of money to settle gambling debts, which were purportedly used as leverage to influence Beasley’s performance while he was a Milwaukee Bucks player in the 2023–2024 NBA season.
The indictment alleges that Beasley’s rebound totals in at least four games allegedly followed betting instructions. On March 10, 2024, he made a significant rebound in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers. Betting data showed that the amount wagered on the game was over $5,000 at that time.
Joseph Nocella Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said: “Bribery and insider betting schemes like this one involving former NBA players and a current NBA player agent who exploited inside NBA information for profit erode the integrity of American sports and victimise the sports-watching public.”
Beasley is due back in court on August 6, 2026. The other defendants are former NBA player agent Paolo Zamorano, who has also pleaded not guilty, along with Ernesto Plascencia, Robert Gorodetsky and William Brown, who have not yet been arraigned.
Davis last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season and was a teammate of Beasley’s with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2020-21. Wider federal investigations into NBA-linked betting have led to guilty pleas from former players including Jontay Porter and Damon Jones.
