The state-gambling operator Veikkaus’s deputy CEO will move to a new role.
Finland.- Operators continue to shuffle their ranks as preparations advance for the expected launch of regulated online gambling in Finland from 2027.
The current monopoly operator Veikkaus has announced that its deputy CEO Velipekka Nummikoski will be assigned to a new role from January, with her previous position to be abolished. Nummikoski was previously responsible for public relations, but this duty has been handed over Tuomo Puumala, the state-owned operator’s director of data, artificial intelligence, customer service and corporate responsibility.
Nummikoski will take up unspecified new project duties.
Veikkaus CEO Olli Sarekoski said: “I would like to thank Nummikoski for many years of good management and teamwork for the benefit of the Finnish gambling company and, thus for all Finns. His contributions, including to the new Gambling Act, have been very significant.”
Veikkaus is to be split in two, with one company to retain the monopoly over lottery and retail sports betting in Finland, and the other to compete in the upcoming regulated igaming market. One of the future competitors for this latter business has also announced a new appointment.
Hippos ATG, the new joint venture between Sweden’s ATG and Finland’s trotting organisation Suomen Hippos has named Jussi Nurmi as its chief operating officer. Nurmi has 10 years of experience in igaming and has worked in senior roles at Betsson and TonyBet.
The appointment follows that of Mikael Bäcke as Hippos ATG CEO in June.
“Hippos ATG combines strong heritage with a clear ambition to build a modern and sustainable business for the Finnish market,” Nurmi said. “I’m excited to contribute to creating a competitive and responsible gaming company in Finland.”
